Detroit Junior League
2024 Designer Show House
The Designers’ Show House allows the League to continue its philanthropic work, which supports community impact initiatives that help meet the needs of Detroit children, young women, and families. It also contributes to the community-based grants and scholarships given out annually by the organization.
Always a blessing to give.
It was a honor and a privilege to work with team LaShee Floral & Events on the 25th anniversary designer show house for the Detroit Junior League.
01.
Discovery Phase
LaShee Floral and Events is the designer selected for designing the sunroom in this year’s showcase. The goal was to create art that complements LaShee's floral and interior design for a 9ft by 12ft wall.
02.
Design Concept
The idea was to create a 3 dimensional painting that mimics nature and the design intent for urban chic style. We had reviewed relief paintings as inspiration. Through this inspiration it was easy to apply the technique to my abstract style called sculpture canvas. Instead of one big painting it became a series of paintings formed as 3 dimensional leaves that measure approximately 2ft wide and between 4ft and 6ft tall.
03.
Collaboration
The art was created and molded and then transported from Florida to Detroit for final shaping and color match the designers color palette.
Each leaf represents an individual painting for my signature technique called Sculptured Canvas. This art is both a sculpture and an oil painting. The work is produced in a two part process. (1) The canvas is first produced in its sculpture form with the canvas without normal sculpting materials (i.e. plaster, resins or clay). (2) Color is added with approximately 5 to 6 layers of paint to create a field of depth using color to enhance to sculpture.
04.
Execution
Once we've achieved matching the color story, it's time to bring the design to life. It's a hands-on throughout the process, overseeing the implementation to make sure it matches the vision. The art is centered on a custom water feature from Pondering Waters.
